Hi,
Hope someone can please help. yr 7 DD missed a math lesson due to sickness last week and now doesn't understand. I've looked thro' the math text book and I've followed some of the explanations but am struggling with this myself and therefore have no chance of explaining.
Multiplication & division of fractions:
okay, glasses on............
2 1/3 + 4/9 + 1 5/6
I've got 7/3 + 4/9 + 11/6 = 22/18
but now i've lost the plot...............
dd tired and pmt, I don't want to answer the question for her, I want to explain how to reach the answer.
She hasn't finished the question yet but has got as far as
2 1/3 + 4/9 + 1 5/6 = 2 6/18 + 8/18 +
gone into strop and the rest is history
any help most gratefullt appreciated
am registered but fear identification.................
see you in REHAB l8r
thanx
Sue

To add a fraction...
Express all fractions in terms of the lowest common demoninator and add the numerators together
therefore
2 1/3 + 4/9 + 1 5/6
(the lowest number that is divisible by 3, 9 & 6 is 18 )
turn them all into 18ths
2 6/18+ 8/18 + 1 15/18
add them together
2+1 +6/18 + 8/18 + 15/18
3 + 29/18
4 11/18
I think .... but it is late and I have got a steaming cold...
