What a poor question!

10% more marks or what ... where does the question come from?

this question was in "target on year 5 maths" unfortunately my book is the older version . on the new version they don't have the question any longer.
regarding 10% more .. that has not been explained. i just wrote word to word same question from the book.

answer is also not given..
if i consider 10% more of what Ryan got then answer is coming as 77 if i consider 10% more of the total marks then the answer is 80. since it has not been explained well there is two ways to look at the problem and from both perspective answer is right. so i was not sure and hence posted the question.

Personally I would assume that it means 10% more marks ie the answer is 77%. However, as you say, the wording is too imprecise and this would not happen in a 'real' test.

This is dangerous ground for me as I'm certainly not an expert. But I'd have thought that 10% more than 70 is definitely 77.

If the question was about percentage points - ie Rebecca scored 10 percentage points more than Ryan - then the answer would be 80%.

thanks Guest55 and Streathammum .
my thinking was on the similar lines too. but good to know this kind of "not clear" maths wont be on real test.
