I live outside catchment area and have just calculated myself to be closer to CRG by a mile. However, I am still confused on which school I should start to prepare my son for. My son doesn't like writing but I feel there is more competition for CRG. Any advice?

If you are out of catchment for CRGS they need to score highly as the out of catchment places are allocated in score order. Distance only comes into play if there are equal scores. The school advised for 2016 entry approx 100 places went to in catchment and 50 OOC. School said 450 sat. School may give you 2017 entry figures if you ask.

There is no writing all answers are multiple choice.

50 maths in 50 mins
56 english in 45 mins (2 comprehensions this year)
80 VR in 50 mins

I am not familiar with BRGS at all.

What percentage was a pass? And do you any idea how that differed from
Out of catchment?

We asked headteacher at open night last month and she said 70-75% in catchment with a child needing to pass each of the 3 papers (maths/english and vr).

Anecdotally 85-90% out of catchment. Depends on how hard the test is and strength of children sitting, they give a place to all the in catchment children that pass then allocate the OOC places to the highest scoring from out of catchment.

When the school had 120 places only about 20 places were available to OOC. 2016 was the first year with 150 and 50 went to OOC. Will be interesting to see 2017 split.
