Hi
Can anyone confirm if the familiarization papers issued to schools are the same as the NFER papers which can be bought in bookshops.

My son is due to sit the Lincs VR & NVR papers in Sept. He will be doing the familiarization papers at school next week and I have been advised by his teacher that this year's familiarization papers are the same as the NFER papers set D which can be bought in bookshops. From other postings here it appears that the tests sent out from the grammar schools may not be the same as the bought versions and include more types of questions.

I can't think that it will be the same test as 11D, as it would give a false impression of results, if children had done the bought tests over the Summer (they would remember some of the answers)

I've just spoken to daughter, andshe says the practice test that she did at school in July contained a question with a crossword style fill-in, but test 11D doesn't have anything like this.

I think they try to throw in a couple of new questions styles - afterall nfer must be trying to stay ahead of us "helpers" all the time !

Good luk for Sept

It has been said that the familiarisation paper for VR does not change from year to year, but I do not know whether or not this is true - anecdotally, however, both of my children who have so far done it remembered similar type questions coming up.

It has not so far been the same as the published papers - more types of question; similarly the "real thing" has also had more types of question than the published papers. If you look through the previous threads you will find discussions of the types of question which have come up in previous years.
