Hi Alex,

Thank-you for your kind words. We are applyinging for Q.E.H.S in Gainsborough and we already know that they are over-subscribed - they have more qualified students than places, so it then comes down to:

1/ Children in the local authority care
2/ Children who have siblings already at the school
3/ Distance from the school.

I will try and phone the school and try to find out if score order comes in to play at all. We really want her to go to QEHS and would look at all options to try and get her in.

Oops sorry - always associate QEHS with Nottinghamshire cross border people and NE Lincs with Caistor and Louth - obviously need to look at the map again.

It is a bit harder to ascertain where you stand with the Community Grammar Schools. They tend to be a bit less forthcoming with information than some of the Foundation Schools and it is always hard to ascertain at this stage how far out the distance is likely to go for any particular school. Score will not come into play at all in allocation of places. It is possible that, if you went to appeal for a place, a high score could be one factor you could raise, particularly if your allocated school did not cater particularly well for bright children, but it would probably not be sufficient on its own as a reason to win an appeal.

Fingers crossed for you.
