Re: All over!
I think they should have a separate writing task too considering how Medway put weight on English. I can't see anyone benefiting in any of the other subjects by getting info about the test but I certainly can see the advantage for English.Belinda wrote: There was 'talk' of having a different English writing task for late sitters some years ago as the title /format usually slipped out in 'playground talk'.

Re: All over!
Late sitters get a different title. I know this for certain as a child of mine sat the test a few days late in a previous year because special arrangements had to be made for him. His task was similar but different - who could ever work out how the task might be slightly altered and coach their child in a window of 3-4 days?? be serious!
I've heard in the past that the English is marked by experienced teachers of English, and as someone has already said, it's marked on a number of different things so even if a child hasn't got the format quite right, or forgot to use paragraphs or whatever, it's not necessarily a disaster!
Keep calm and carry on!

The tutor DD went to marked her English as follows:HelenW wrote:I've heard in the past that the English is marked by experienced teachers of English, and as someone has already said, it's marked on a number of different things so even if a child hasn't got the format quite right, or forgot to use paragraphs or whatever, it's not necessarily a disaster!
Spelling marks out of 5
Punctuation marks out of 5
Presentation marks out of 5
Content marks out of 10
This aim was to score 20+
Re: All over!
I worked out the table below to help determine what standardised score DD would need in Maths/English if I guess the other two. For us Maths has always been the weaker subject and she has scored well in English and VR, but the table can also be used to determine English score required. I have assumed the Pass mark is 526 (the highest recent score).
How to use.
Assume DC is good at VR and you anticipate a standardised score of 120 and in English and score of 110. Using the grid read along the 120 row until the 110 column. This gives a score of 93, required for the Maths test inorder to get a total of 526. (110*2 + 92*2 + 120).

Re: All over!
Thanks for clarifying about the English Helen. That's great they use a different title for English. I think its the only paper that would be of significant advantage if a child knows the title. Good luck to those waiting.
