Calderdale Results 2011

Hi everyone,

I am new to posting here and have joined as I have noticed that many people are viewing posts but not many people are posting, I hope that by coming out of the woodwork others will also as I am dying to know how everyone else is feeling now that Xmas has been and gone. I can already feel myself starting to get butterflies!

My DS took the test in December and has named preferences: 1st NHGS and 2nd CH. In the pre-test he came just outside the top 25% with 161.something!

Hope you will join in the discussion whilst we wait for the results! Last year's posts looked very supportive and I am hoping this will be a good place to visit when nerves take hold!

My DS is my oldest and has studied at home without a tutor (well, with me as a tutor!). I have two DDs in year 3 & 4. My 9yr old already wants to start studying!

Over to you...... :D

Hi 1down22go,

Welcome to the forum! I think that once the exam is out of the way, everyone tries to concentrate on Christmas but January and looming results, bring it all back into focus. Hopefully that should bring the return of some of the previous posters and a few new ones.

My best wishes to all waiting for results. This is a good place to while away the long hours of January. :D

It's awful all this waiting, I just can't stand it, I'm trying to busy myself but I just want to know the results asap.

I'm a longtime lurker :D My ds also took the test but our school choices are the other way round with crossleys first as it is closer to home (15 mins walk away)

My ds got just inside the top 25 % in the pretest with a score of 167 something, but I am worried sick about the real test as he said the maths was hard and didnt have time to complete the last 7 questions but is confident about the 33 he did answer.

It's such a relief to hear from someone else in the same position, my friends and family just don't understand what I'm worrying about but I just know that my ds has no chance of getting into one of the decent high schools because of catchment and the one he will qualify for if he hasnt done well enough in this test is dire,in my opinion.

Do you have any idea when we will get the results?

Good luck, fingers crossed for everyone!

"long time lurker" - I like it!

I know just what you mean. If our ds does not pass, we would be happy with our third choice, but not sure he would get it as we are not in feeder school for it and the one we are in feeder for, we don't want/would not send him to!

I think that is what makes it such an anxious time. :?

I was reassured that a similar amount took it this year - according to the Telegraph 867 children took it this year compared to 853 last year. Don't know how accurate that is though?

Think that they post out the results around the 20th??

It will be a long 11+ days!!!!!

The next 10 days are going to go so slow, I wish I wasn't on mat leave, I've got far too much time on my hands to worry all the more. :D

I'm going to have no hair or nails left by the 20th!

Another day passed!! One day nearer. At least we can say we might get them 'next week' now

So, have you thought if you are opening the letter or are you letting your ds?? I am tempted to open ours so that I can digest it first!

I have got my mum all worked up now too - she said she is going to come and sit on the doorstep waiting for the post!!! I am not going to get any work done next week!

I have spoken to my ds a couple of times about who is going to open the letter, he said he isn't bothered if I open it, I sort of want him to open it as it is his achievement, on the other hand if the news is disappointing I don't want to upset him, it's just another thing to worry about! aaarrrggghhh!!!

The post doesn't come until after he has gone to school, so I may have to steam it open and reseal it for him to open when he returns from school. :)

I don't think I will be able to sit looking at that letter for the whole day without having a peek, I'm very impatient.

I actually had trouble getting to sleep lastnight which is not like me at all, I was thinking too much about which school he will end up at, like you we would be really happy if our ds got our 3rd choice (Calder High School, ds chose this himself, some of his friends are going there and he preferred it on the open nights???, so he says) but I doubt very much he will qualify for a place based on distance.

I CAN'T COPE :? and everyone else in my household is so laid back about it especially ds.

I live in hope until next week!

And where are the other 865 sets of parents?

Why haven't they come out of the woodwork yet?

Surely they are worrying too!

Hi Lydflo,

I think they must still be lurking! If this year is anything like the last two years, the results will be sent out at the end of next week. So it shouldn't be too long now. I hope you still have some hair left. :D

Hi 1down22go,

I would open it first to give yourself a chance to take it all in. Besides, if it comes whilst DC is at school' then you'll go completely nuts waiting all day to open the letter.!

An iron works wonders for sealing and unsealing envelopes. :D
