Hi, just wanted to ask: are the maths and vr tests in multiple choice or standard forms? How long for each test? Do they get a break between each test (every 50 mn or however long each test lasts)? Also, when you get the results of the pre-test and of the actual test, what does it tell you - their rank, percentage of success etc??As you can see I am a clueless mum- my daughter really wants to try to get to NHGS and she's our eldest. Both her dad and grandad attended NHGS. Thanks for any help :)

Hi Ghee,
Welcome to the forum. :)
are the maths and vr tests in multiple choice or standard forms?
Multiple choice
How long for each test?

VR 50 mins
Maths 30 mins
Do they get a break between each test
Yes but not long.
Also, when you get the results of the pre-test and of the actual test, what does it tell you

Pretest: Standardised score and quartile - The letter explains if you would have reached the qualifying mark in previous years.
Test: Standardised score and rank order position.

Hope that helps.

Thanks a lot Mitasol, that was really useful.

Don't they also have an essay to write, and how long do they get for that? Sorry about all the questions!

Anyone else with children wanting to take the test in December '11 feel free to chat!!

I'm afraid that I can't remember exactly how long the writing element is but I think that it was 30 mins.

The essays will only be marked for those children who have not obtained a place in the top 230/232. The remaining places will be allocated on VR + Maths + Essay.
