I have been doing quite a lot of english testing/revision with my son, but fear that i have been teaching him something different from what the english test in Calderdale may be. Can anyone let me know what the test is likely to look like, i have been told that the test is Continuous writing, can you give me some idea as to what would be expected. I have been using Bond test papers but there doesnt seem to be any corrolation with the papers and the expected test he will be taking in Calderdale.

Many thanks in advance..

Hi natvincat,

Welcome to the forum.

The English is simply an essay. It's a couple of years since my child sat the test but at that time you were given a title and around 30 minutes to complete the essay.

It is only used to select the final 25% of the candidates in conjunction with the VR and Maths. I would concentrate on verbal reasoning which is weighted double that of the maths test. The essay will not be important if your child goes through in the top 232 candidates. http://www.elevenplusexams.co.uk/school ... re-11-plus

If you are looking for suitable VR practice papers these are all good viewtopic.php?f=12&t=4782&p=48510#p48510

The maths paper should be KS2 material.

edited to add: I've moved your post to the Yorkshire section. :)
