Not in the Skipton area - but within North Yorkshire I know of at least TWO people who DIDN'T GET ANY OF THEIR CHOICES!!!

The one they ended up with is considered the worst school in the area.

Anyone out there? Going through it for the second time in two years! Despite everyone in education who know my children assuring me otherwise, my children do not seem to pass this test. We now have the quite bizarre situation of the child who "failed" last year getting one of the top marks in a Y7 assessment at her (selective) independent school. Even if you take into account that the pass mark for this school was probably lower than that for SGHS, she still must be quite able, given its selective nature. Get ready for more counselling next week!!.........................................................aaaarrrrrrrrrrgggggggggh

Hi Bougalou,

We are doing Calderdale exams (North Yorkshire is nearest Forum).

Had a Pre-test but exams are not until December.

Your posts from last year made me realise you don’t just rock up to the exam and the bright kids pass.

So wishing you all the best this time. :D

Hi Mitasol, thanks for getting in touch. Hope the pre-test was OK, and good luck for the test in December. Which school(s) are you hoping for? Do you have any good comprehensive alternatives if things don't go as planned? The issue for us was that there was no real alternative. I had taught at the secondary modern which our first DD was heading and quite frankly there was no way she was going there if I could help it.

Both myself and my husband are teachers in the Grammar School sector and know that our children and several of their friends were more than capable of doing well at a GS, which makes it even more frustrating. On the other hand we have both taught children who seem out of their depths but who passed easily.

You are quite right, there seems to be a lot more involved than "rocking up" to the test with a bright child.

Anyway good to know there are some fellow Yorkies out there. There is always the good Doctor Herman if you need help later on, I found her advice (+ Etienne's and Sally-Anne's) invaluable. Here's hoping you won't need it!

All the best,
Bouga

North Yorkshire is very quiet section and I seem to be the all alone in West Yorkshire. (Lurking in North Yorkshire)

The Pre-Test went OK. An average VR score was pulled from relegation by good maths score. So hoping to improve speed by December.

I will be wistful but not heartbroken if he has to go to the local school.

Not long now till our results Bouga, I'm feeling more and more apprehensive with each passing day.

We are going to France the morning the envelope is due to drop on our mat - ex hubby will open it on our behalf and fill out our caf.

I sometimes wish we hadn't started out on this journey!!

Fingers crossed for all of us.
