does anyone know how they work?do they take outgoings into account ??

They look at your income, how much your mortgage is and how much equity you have in your house.

They also ask about stocks, shares, other children etc etc etc.

You may better off in the independent section with this sort of thing.

You can also get scholarships for academic excellence or musical/sports scholarships.

MGS have two criterias, first you have to past the test. Then depending on the score it is means tested. If you earn 15,000 a year you are entitiled to 100%. After that it slides down the scale depending on your annually pay. I think if you earn above 40,000 you do not qualify for finacial assisstant.

Phone the school they are very helpful. Book an appointment to visit the school with your son.

I'm pretty sure a small percentage of boys can also get a academic bursary if they perform very well in the tests.


Whilst the papers do look tougher then Alty, they do take arond 200 boys out of apox 550 applying (from a MGS teacher), so much better pass rate then Alty.
