AGGS waiting list

Hi All,

Does anyone have any information how offers are made based on "2nd round offers"? Is it distance first?

Have AGGS in previous years made 2nd round offers or have all the space been allocated in the first round?

Thanks for your comments

Hello and welcome.

At 1st March AGGS will allocate all its places according to its oversubscription criteria. Parents are given a certain amount of time to accept their place. I can't remember exactly how long this is but it's maybe 3 weeks or so.

After the deadline, assuming some parents have declined a place (maybe for an independent), those spare places will be offered according to the waiting list.

If you don't get a place at 1st March then you should accept the place you are allotted, and let the LEA and AGGS know that you are still interested in a place at AGGS. This gets you onto the waiting list.

The waiting list will rank all girls on it under the oversubscription criteria. So let's say that on 1st March the last girl admitted lived 6.2 miles from AGGS, then you would expect the No 1 girl on the waiting list to live, say, 6.3 miles from the school etc etc.

The school has made second round offers, but I don't have figures.

You can read here how it transpired last year. Unfortunately there are a few deletes in the thread - I think from parents who were concerned that they might be identified from the information given. http://www.elevenplusexams.co.uk/forum/ ... 25&t=25835" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

You can go on the waiting list and appeal as well, of course. One of our posters this summer was on the waiting list, appealed but was unsuccessful and then a matter of a couple of days before term started in September got a call from the school offering her daughter a place. You've just got to have nerves of steel.

(Please can I ask you not to post in blue. We keep that colour for moderators of the forum to post in when they are being official, so to speak. As a mod, I changed your colour to boring black, just in case you are wondering where the colour went!)

Thanks Trafford mum,

Apologies for the blue usage. I had posted also on the appeals forum but have had no response. How does the waiting list operate? do we have to request for the name to be put on or do they automatically put names on?

I will most probably fall in the category of section 1.9 of the admission policy. I was told that i would need to move and register on the electoral roll and also on the TLEA register before national offer day in order to qualify, is this correct? I want to triple check everything, as i have been wrongly advised by TLEA and am now in this predicament.

AGGS policy stated that you must put them down as a preference, but it does not state 1st preference. Does it matter?

Does anyone know when Sale GS release results?

Thanks again x

You will need to contact the school and the LEA to let them know you want to go on the waiting list. I haven't been in this position so I don't know the exact details, but the letter of allocation should make this clear to you.

If I were you I would ask AGGS to put down in writing to you exactly what they require. Then there can be no argument. AGGS controls their own admissions. All TLEA does is the actual allocation. It is AGGS you need to pin down on this one.

Their admission policy says that you must do/have the following:

"a) Evidence and legal documentation to the effect that they have purchased or exchanged contracts on a property is produced and proof of disposal of the previous home.
b) For leasing agreements a minimum of 24 months is required and legally supported documentation produced and proof of disposal of the previous home.
c) In both cases(a & b), it will also be necessary to satisfy the school of the Applicant’s and parent(s) proof of residency."

Get them to confirm in writing exactly how you should prove this. eg in relation to electoral roll/council tax proof.
AGGS policy stated that you must put them down as a preference, but it does not state 1st preference. Does it matter?
You need to put down on your CAF the schools that you want in the order that you want them. If AGGS is your first choice then you must put it first because, otherwise, you will get a school you have ranked above AGGS assuming you qualify for that other school. Don't worry that your chances of getting your No 2 school will be reduced by putting AGGS ahead of that school even though you know you won't get allocated AGGS on 1st March. Schools don't know where they are on your CAF only that they feature on it somewhere.
Does anyone know when Sale GS release results?
It's usually 3 weeks after the exam but I don't have any information as to the date this year.

Thanks for the info TM.

Eitienne, the moderator from the appeals forum is also guidng me. She has said pretty much the same. I have already emailed AGGS Admissions requesting answers to my questions. I hope they respond before the 31st. My LEA is suprised that they want a tenancy min 24 months, does anyone offer these type of tenancies, i thought it was a 6 or 12 month assured shorthold.

On what grounds do most people appeal? can it be discussed on here?

Sale post results out next monday. for anyone wanting to know.

Just note that AGGS have tightened up their wording in this year's admissions policy in relation to moving into area. It's a lot clearer than it was last year which was the policy that determineddaddy fell foul of.

Well pointed out TM,

I have just now re-read the policy and indeed it is amended from last year. Interesting!
