Hi,

The first catchment zone for AGGS is mentioned quite a few times, what is that?

I live in the Brooklands area of Sale (M33), is that safely in zone for Alti girls, can I relax and not worry about over subscription?

Thanks.

Really surprised at this - I thought there was a general 8 mile radius period. Girls whose sister attend and then within 8 miles are first, after which it is just an 8 mile radius bun fight.

Can you let me know where the 6 miles scenario can be read about.

WB,

My undertstanding is that there is a notional '8 mile catchment' around the school, priority is given as follows (assuming all pass the entrance exam) :-

1) looked after children
2) girls with siblings in the school
3) girls in catchment with no sibling in school
4) girls out of catchment, (I don't know how it works with siblings) done on distance

The reality is that last year, the offers made during the first round (March 1st) went out to girls living no further than 5.5 miles (and this was with a 7 form intake this year!). I think this 'first round offer' distance is slowly decreasing year on year, possibly leading to the '6 mile radius comment'.

So even if you lived 7.9 miles out (technically in catchment) and passed the exam with an extremely high score, you would not have been offered a place on March 1st. I dont know how far the second round / appeal offers went out this year. You could ring the office to find out.

Hope this helps.

We live "Just" under 4 miles so am really hopeful, I also hope that there is another 7 form entry for us as this would probably guarantee it. Has anybody heard??

Apologies :oops: I am mistaken it is an 8 mile catchment!

I have double checked the admissions policy on the aggs website. the above order is the same but the catchement is an 8 mile radius.

Sorry if I caused anyone to panic :shock:

workerbee - it has never gone down to 4 miles with a 6 class entry si I'm sure you will be fine.

Ifyou look at the trafford council admissions website there is an information booklet on there. It gives distance and categories for the last person to get a place on each school. It is really interesting and gives a benchmark for people to look at.

Different years will have different variables so treat with caution but helpful all the same.

I was surprised to read that all Loreto took on a whole category lower last year than everybody assumed ie all non catholics but baptised girls got in!

I am also unsure wether the information is for 1st March only or further rounds after that - would recommend anyone to have a look.

Hi - My first post here. Very pleasingly our only daughter passed the AGGS entrance exam.

Looking at the brochure on the Trafford MBC site, I can see that for 2013 intake there were 174 places (same as this year), and that there were 'some Category 3 applicants. Last offer by
distance (5.57 miles)'

It is unclear what a 'Category 3 applicant is, but I suspect it means 5.3 below (can anyone confirm) ?

Quote:
5.1 Children who are Looked After, regardless of their place of residence;
5.2 Applicants residing within the School’s catchment area who will have a sister who will be a pupil of
the School at the time of the Applicant’s proposed admission;
5.3 Applicants residing within the School’s catchment area. Where the number of applicants qualifying for
admission under this category exceeds the number of places available, then priority shall be given to
those applicants residing closer to the School (see ‘distance’ in the definitions);
5.4 Applicants residing outside the School’s catchment area who will have a sister who will be a pupil
of the School at the time of the Applicant’s proposed admission. Where the number of applicants
qualifying for admission under this category exceeds the number of places available, then priority shall
be given to those applicants residing closer to the School (see ‘distance’ in the definitions);
5.5 Applicants residing outside the School’s catchment area. Where the number of Applicants qualifying
for admission under this category exceeds the number of places available, then priority shall be given
to those applicants residing closer to the School (see ‘distance’ in the definitions);
5.6 In the unlikely event of a tie-breaker situation, the applicant will be chosen by random allocation. A
representative of the Applicant will be invited to observe the procedure which would be supervised
by a person independent of the School.

We live approx 4.7 miles (straight line) from the school, and looking at previous comments posted here there seems to be a suggestion that as we're within a five mile radius we should be reasonably assured of a place - do others agree?

Thanks

Hi. My daughter started at AGGS in September. We are just under 5 miles away and she was offered a place in the first round. She has made friends with a girl in her class from Urmston so I think you should be quite confident of gaining a place. Well done to her by the way!
