Entry to sixth form at ABGS as an external candidate

Hi would some advise from parents/students who are or have attended ABGS for sixth
below is the relevant link from their site

form.http://www.agsb.co.uk/doclib/admissions ... Policy.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

my questions are:
1) 48 gcse points seems rather low ( ave B grade) with grade A at proposed A level subjects, what is a more realistic requirement at the " top eight" gcse for external candidates?

2)it states at least 4 places are avialable for ext candidates , what is the ave number of ext candidates accepted?

3) on ABGS web-site it states aprox 54% A/A* at A levels-what % of candidates who get A* go on to get A/A* at A level particularily in further maths

4) what is the ave class size for A level physics , chemistry , maths, further maths?

5)is there any prep for Oxbridge entry i.e for interviews , STEP exams ect?

in general I find the web-site very disappointing, there is no detail break down of results of gsce or A levels subject by subject or department by department e.g how does the physics department compare to the chemistry department for this yr or any previous yr or univeristy destinations .

any reason for this lack of candid disclosure ? all this information is avialable on the AGGS site

all comments/advise wellcomed

Most bods on here have only just got the 11+ out of the way without worrying about 6th form!

sorry I am aware of that, probably a silly time to post during this stressful time for most posters.
BTW congrats to those who have passed, good luck to those waiting and for those who did not make it don't be too down hearted , my son also failed his 11+ and is now expected to get mostly A* at his igcse's :) (God willing)

Hi- I know that generally the least able 20 or 30 students in year 11 are given extra help with their GCSE's but are advised to look for an alternative school for years 12 and 13.
I am not sure what happens if they get the required 48 points, but as a rule around 20 boys leave after their GCSE's so I presume that is the number of places for external applicants. Good luck to your son, where ever he chooses to go. :D

Thanks Gail , thats very useful info, 20 places sounds better then 4 .
If my son and I had a choice we would keep him at his present Indie , but due to financial hardship we cannot afford to keep him there for sixth form, the school has agreed to pay this yrs fees from their "hardship fund" but will not do so for sixth form :(

Thank you Gail . things are now resolved my fater-in-law has now passed away sadly, so I can return to full time work again and will be able to keep my son in his present school for 6th form , but less time to spend on this forum
thanks all - been scrapping with " know it alls"-elsewhere who in reality know very little
I have follOwing the previous thread.
All education be it tutored or D.I.Y is useful pass or fail, education is not just about pass/fail it is to train the the brain ( hard -wire) the brain to think in a certain way , best age? when you are quite young , the age the brain is most malleable - from age 8 onwards -by 14yrs all is lost-the brain is fixed .So no SHAME in wanting the best for your child , ignore the the rublish experts tell you , they know nought IMO
prior to age 7yr let them play !! no formal education required keep them home if can afford too!-even if they cannot read or write or work out 2+2 no problem.
