I noticed the AGSB Christmas fair is on the 29th of November.

Think I will go with DS. It will give him a chance to see the school again. Especially since it will be his first post exam visit.

Sharing for anyone else with DS putting AGSB as first choice.

Hi Brainfreeze, i am a new yr 7 parent at AGSB, i decieded to put myself forward to help out with the Christmas Fair as the school really encourage parents to do so. One of the suggestions this yr was to try and encourage families who will have boys starting at the school next yr or any potential boys in the future to come along So please spread the word , the more the merrier. It is also a good way to see the school again.

It's a lovely idea but for those who have little certainty about getting a place it may be unwise to emotionally invest any further. I think it would be a great idea to go to the summer fair if you have a child starting in the September.

I think for boys in catchment who passed (who are almost guaranteed a place) its a great idea.

Lm2 - I probably wouldn't go if I wasn't sure ds has a place. Like you say, getting further emotionally invested at a point when you have no control on getting accepted.

Wilmslowmum - lovely :-) Will pass it on. Although I only personally know one other boy who passed within catchment.

How has your DS found it so far?

Hi Brainfreeze, My DS has loved every minute, he is a very sociable type and has made so many new friends. He has joined the football squad so that takes up most Saturday mornings , it is good for us to meet other parents, everyone I have spoken to has very positve feedback from their boys too. Homework most evenings but not too much, just needs to do it on the night it is given, typical boy thinks if it doesn't have to be in by Friday he will do it on Thursday! A lot of the boys go to the library to do theirs at lunch, not my DS he wants to out in the playground chatting!! It certainly isn't too strict probably the right balance for most boys. I would say the subjects are stimulating and challenging. The headmaster said the year has settled in well , i would say the same of my DS. I am sure your boy will love it.

That is really encouraging. My DS is also football mad and will be keen to join the football squad. I really hope its a way of smoothing the transition actually. Glad to hear it is not too pressurised, now I am over the trauma of the lead up to the results, I am now worrying how he'll cope!!
