Hi, I am new to this site just starting the 11+ mayhem. We have been told that to be Grammar school standard you have to get 118 on NFER tests. Is this all tests does anyone know as my daughter has 113 on reading, but 125 on writing and 137 on maths. Do they take an average of all three. Totally confused!

Hi
The NFER nelson tests are standardised in the same way as the 11+ ie,age adjusted. The highest score is 141 and 100 is seen as an average like an iq.So the scores can indicate suitability for grammar,

The 11+ on Wirral consists of 2 verbal reasoning papers and to gain a place you need to score 236 when both scores are added together,
ie 118 as an average on each
Your daughter scores are great for writing and maths, and very close for english,I'm no expert but think she'd have a good chance,I would suggest you try some of the free papers on this site (go to Interactive cd's there are lots of examples.

Is she taking the exam in November this year /if so then I suggest you start some practising soon!
There are lots of others on wirral who will offer you advice, so good luck!
Which Grammar are you thinking of ?

Hi, Thanks for your reply.
We are looking at Wirral Grammar as we are only round the corner!

We have started with a tutor who did an IQ test which came out as 126 and her teachers seem to think that she won't have a problem, but that doesn't put my mind at ease, sometimes I think they can be too positive.

At least we have until November and her Junior school is very much geared up to the 11+ so we will just have to wait and see and hope for the best.

Just make sure you understand what is and is not included in the Wirral 11+ exam, as it might surprise you. Although we didn't use a tutor we did do plenty of practice!

As was stated above if you browse this website you will probably find more detailed information on the Wirral 11+ than anywhere else on the planet!

Hi, I can see that there is alot of info on this website, a friend recommended it and I have already bought a couple of papers of it, it's certainly good value.

We will certainly be putting in some practice.
