Hi, daughter sat yesterday's paper and feels totally disheartened. Having done well in all her practice papers, she feels totally shattered by yesterday's paper. Are the marks from both papers added together to give a total score? Basically, I'm just trying to reassure her that whilst she may feel she did badly yesterday, she still has the chance to have a good week next week. Clutching at straws .................... ???!

Hope it went well for others.

This is all just so awful - two children in her group burst into tears during the test - how stressful can it get?!?!?

I've just been reading other post and yeah the two tests get added together?

sjo070,

Take heart from the fact that every child I've heard of this year found the first test hard.

Last year my son was devastated after the first test (thought he'd failed) but found the second test easier. I've just found his result letter (128, 139). He was never confident about the first paper but in actual fact would still have passed with two of those.

Even though your daughter feels badly about the first paper she may still have done it. If not she can still make it up on the second paper.

Good Luck

Scatshouse.

Hi,

The general consensus seems to be that the paper was hard this year. This means that the pass mark will be lower.

Although I've heard people talk about needing 65 out of 80 to pass, this isn't actually the case.

Look here.

What they do is standardise the score based on the average score for all entrants, so although the standardised pass mark remains the same every year, this can actually map onto a different test score. The raw pass mark differs for different age groups too.

So even if the second test is also hard, it shouldn't be anything to worry about for those who have been doing well in practice tests and who performed to their usual levels.
