Hello,
I am new here but wondering if anyone can recommend any good games to play to help with the verbal reasoning and maths for the 11 plus?

We play Scrabble, Boggle and other word games, but wondered if there was anything more targetted?

Thanks!

As I've just added it to another thread...We made a word game by splitting compound words (the 3 letter words go on each of one set of cards, the rest of the letters of each word go on another card). This was a question type my daughter found time consuming, so it worked well as a game. There are probably games you can make up for most types of question.

Just bought new card game Boogle slam for DD.

Its quick to play and compact so great for holidays etc.

It requires good knowledge of valid four letter words so has to help "find the hidden word" type of questions.

try woodlands junior site and bbc for some online learning games.

you can use a pack of cards to speed up recall of tables

lay out 2 cards at a time, multiply together first to shout out answer wins.

K=13, Q=12, J=11 A=1.

can also lay out 2 or 3 at a time and first to add them together wins.

If you are much quicker than the child, you can play it with just them answering. Correct they get the pair of cards, wrong you get it.

www.freerice.com is good for vocabulary too

Thank you for both those suggestions.. I have just ordered Boggle Slam - rather than Boogle Slam. In fact, we do play Boggle, which is a good game too.

We'll have a go at the number game too, but I think the comment might be that it is too much like doing homework!

Thanks! 8)
