Just got the AE book explaining this and can see that the multiple choice answers really help and in the AE practice paper(at the back of the book) they always had 2 answers where the 1st and 2nd letter were the same and one of them was always the correct answer. Could you use that as a shortcut or are there pitfalls to relying too heavily on the answer sheet? Think good strategies could really equal extra points on ones like these :D

These are relatively easy questions unless the child comes across a word that they have never heard of such as sate, veto, saga.

Not sure that I understand your method: they always had 2 answers where the 1st and 2nd letter were the same

This type can be answered directly from the answer sheet, as the answers are very neatly split into pairs of words.

On Sunday
a car
ran over
the boys
new toy
