How to calculate standardised score from raw score

Post by lincslady »

My son takes the 11+ test tomorrow.

A friends son took the test last year and managed to get his raw scores-he got 63/100 for verbal and 43/65 for non verbal- his standardised scores were 110 verbal and 105 non verbal, his birthday is in April. My son was born in October.I know scores will change each year because of the different cohort but is there any way of knowing what score my son would need to achieve the 220 pass.Somebody told me the difference between a Autumn born and Spring born could be up to 10 points.

Thanks

Because the marks will vary with the difficulty of the test and the standard of the cohort it is difficult to extrapolate the raw score which will be needed to pass from year to year. Popular wisdom has it that 75% should be sufficient for most children to pass most years - but I don't know how accurate this is.
