IPS TYPE Z iam stuck

could any one explain this for me please IPS A ,PAPER 1,TYPE Z, Q NO:31
three children have an amount of money between them.angela has £5.jason has one half of the total amount.danny has £2 more than angela.
the answer is D(Jason and danny have £19 between them)

OK angela has £5 so Danny must have £7 pounds. total for Angela and Danny = £12.
Jason has half the total money so this must be £12 too. so Jason and Danny have £12+£7 = £19

I find number lines and diagrams help me with this sort of question.

This is how I worked it out.
Angela = £5
Danny = £7 (Dannu has £2 more than Angela)
Jason = 1/2 of the total
So: 5 + 7 +1/2x = x (x being the total money)
12+1/2x = x
12 = x - 1/2x
12 = 1/2x
So, x = 24. So if total is 24, then Jason's money would be 1/2 of it, which is 12
Hence, Jason £12 + Danny £7 = £19
