Help please - Two odd ones out!

Post by lakshmi »

Need to find two words that are different from the other three (Type B)

split, cut, break, parting, sever

My DD and her friends all came up with different answers. I do not have the answer for this question. Can you please help me with this?

Gosh - that is not obvious (not to me anyway!)

How about

sever is to cut something off
break is to cut something off
cut is to cut something off

split and parting are all more dividing something rather than necessarily separating it?

Don't know.

Sorry

It's a toughy but I'd go with faitaccompli too!

I would go with faitaccompli too, it's a bit tricky that one, parting I would discard as it is partING rather than part, but it is not a clear cut ( ) question.

Where did you get it from out of interest.

I initially thought about removing parting due to the ING - however, it could still be a noun - as could all of them apart from sever.

What an awful question. I hope someone has the proper answer!

Hi,
I would go for cut and sever as the odd ones out, I do remember seeing this somewhere but have put everything in a box and dont fancy going into it until my dd takes the 11+ in 2 years  .

If you tell me which pack I'll look/dig for the answer.

(To me cut and sever mean the same thing) could be wrong.

I can see the logic there - you could only cut or sever something on purpose. Whereas something could break, part (ing) or split naturally.

Ridiculous question. If the fate of my son's education rests on something like that, then it is more of a lottery than I thought!

Thanks.

I got it from a friend, but do not have the answer sheet, it is called something like elevenplusexam 2010. I will try to get the pack name from my friend.
