SD Type 19 - anagrams

Post by Stocky »

Can anyone offer any tips (other than what SD suggests) for tackling these question types. DS struggling big time! DD was able to 'just spot it' straight away. Or does anyone know of any websites where I can find lots more anagram practice? Thanks in advance

See following link, comes under jumbled words...

In addition I think anagrams are quite easy to make up some yourself.

A yellow fruit N A B A N A

The opposite to agree also a competition T C O T S E N

A game that uses a ball B L A N T E L

Try writing the letters of your jumbled word randomly within a circle. I often find this helps when the word can't otherwise be seen.

Yes, what orson says, with common letters such as e in the centre of the circle. Also try spotting frequent combinations, eg: tion; ing; ed; er those it's important not to get fixated on them as the anagram could be nothing to do with them.

Took me a while to turn debris into brides in today's quick crossword because I kept looking for an er word.

DD was struggling with this so we found some ipad games which involve spotting hidden words or making chains of adjacent letters into words. It seems to have helped

Play Scrabble or Bananagrams?
(Because anagram practice sounds quite boring to someone who doesn't get them easily!)

'words with friends' on the pc, iPad or iPhone.

That's not advertising, is it?
