DS can't seem to get his head round this one. Can anyone give a better explanation than I ?

David's mum is 3 times older than David will be next year. If David's mum is 28 next birthday, how old is David now ?

These "age next year" questions are very common. For most Type Zs there will be an absolute fact (not a relative fact) given. Start by hunting down that fact.

- David's mum will be 28 next year, so how old is she now? 27

- Mum is 3 times older than David will be next year, so what is 27 divided by 3? 9

- So if David will be 9 next year, how old is he now? 8
