If a=5 b=15 c=4 d=25 e=10

write the answer to this sum as a letter:

d - a x e / b = ?

the options are obviously a,b,c,d and e but we cant seem to fathom this one out

im hoping its an error to save my embarrassment

the answer is apparently e

That's got to be an error

The question reads: A = 10, B = 15, C = 4, D = 25, E = 5

All the rest is correct and it follows from there. The answer is E.

a = 10 b = 15 c = 4 d = 25 e = 5

d - a x e / b
= 25 - 10 x 5 / 15
= 15 x 5 / 15
= 75 / 15
= 5
= e

I think this is an error - as discussed here.

The issue was that the OP had the letter e equalling 10, whereas it should equal 5. That (I suspect) was the reason for the concern a opposed to any BODMAS related query! No matter WHICH way you do it, E could not equal 10!!!

My copy of paper C has this version of the question too - could the OP's paper be a different print run with a mistake in it?

thanks all for the feedback

sally-anne,orson

my paper has a=5 and e=10

there must be a printing error affecting some but not all of these papers

That is very odd indeed, because my copy is definitely one of the very first print run - it was sent to me from our office straight after publication. There is a code on the front of Paper C which says "022/10" - for 2010; what does yours have on it, chelmsford dad?

Why would a publisher change a correct question to an incorrect one ... :?
