Wales: I think that leek s the official emblem of Wales.
Fish: according to one reference, a shoal of fish are together for social reasons, whilst a school of fish are swimming together. Another reference seems to use shoal for individual types of fish, and school for fish in general. However, the two terms seem to be interchangeable.

From good old Wikipedia (not an entry edited by DS1 though I don't think - strange what teenage boys find to amuse themselves with ):
In biology, any group of fish that stay together for social reasons are shoaling (pronounced /ˈʃoʊlɪŋ/), and if the group is swimming in the same direction in a coordinated manner, they are schooling (pronounced /ˈskuːlɪŋ/).[1]

I would have said "shoal", personally, but DD (Yr6) immediately said "school", which is apparently something she has been taught, obviously by someone other than me.
DS2 then chipped in that he knew that from watching "Finding Nemo"...

I thought it was a school of fish and a shoal of whales myself ......................
Or now you come to mention it, is it a shoal of fish and a school of whales
Yuk question

Might be , the t'interweb is not clear, perhaps we need an actual dictionary
As others have said though, it depends what the fish are doing as to whether they are shoaling or schooling.
So the question is ambiguous.

I would like to think that the real tests are not so ambiguos - I mean we are grown adults and even we are discussing the technicalities of a shoal or school of fish - I suppose with both the answers they are right but it depends in the context - Re Q1 if its flowers then yes I would put daffodil but national emlems then yes its a leek but its a little unfair as both are right until you know which they wanted. Which reminds me "Add national emblems and flowers" to my DS list of things to learn - Dont think he would have known either
