GL pack 2 paper 7 question 52

I don't get this question!!
This is from GL pack 2-paper 7.
Mohammed, Cassius, Chrlotte, David and Emily have been at Mayfield Primary school since they were 5.
All Y5 children learn the recorder
All Y6 children learn the violin
Mohammed and David have piano lessons out of school.
Charlotte also learns the flute.
Only David and Charlotte are in Y5.
Who can play the most instruments.
I have drawn a little grid and come up with David and Charlotte as both learning 2 instruments, but the answer sheet says it's Mohammed! Can someone help me out here. We don't actually *know* that any of them are in Y6, do we-just those that are in Y5?
I know I have a cold, but surely I'm not being completely stupid here!

Re: I don't get this question!!
Hmmm, I've had another look and think because David and Charlotte both learn 2 instruments and give no clear 'winner', it's neither of those so you must think again. They must be suggesting that because Mohammed isn't in Y5, you must assume he is in Y6 so therefore has already learnt the recorder (presuming he can still remember how to play it....), the violin in Y6 and piano lessons.
I think it's a stupid question; he could be in Year 4...

Re: I don't get this question!!
Ok - here is what I think (and yes, agree its badly worded).
All children equal but Y6 trumps Y5
David and Charlotte play 1 extra - but are also one down (being Y5) - so they are equal with all.
Mohammed plays one extra so he's the winner.
All the Y5 Y6 stuff would freak my DS out...

Re: I don't get this question!!
That's a shocking example of false logic. Mohammed could be in Yr 3 and play nothing at all. Unless you are told all children mentioned are in Yr 5 or 6, the question is unclear.

Re: I don't get this question!!
I did this really quickly .
This is how i did it:
YR5 YR5
M Ca Ch D E -NAMES
R R R R R -recorder
V V V - year 5 do not play violin
piano piano
Looking at the list Mohammed plays the maximum, i just assumed if the others are not in year 5 then they are in year 6, otherwise why give all this info.

Re: I don't get this question!!
I made such a beautiful chart and it has got all squashed together and i don't know how to format it.

Re: I don't get this question!!
You're supposed to assume that Mohammed is in year 6.
You shouldn't be expected to do that.

Re: I don't get this question!!
Agree with Manana. As Mohd is in year 6 ,he has already learnt the recorder in yr 5.
Re: I don't get this question!!
yes it is mohammed. bec theyve clearly mentioned david and charlotte are in yr5. which means all the rest r yr 6. in that case mohammed is the only one to play 3 instruments.
