I have a saying, which is, 'Don't look for it, it will turn up.' Alternatively, 'Tidy up, it will turn up'. It always works for me for 'kickable' items, and has saved me hours of fruitless searching (though it probably helps if your house isn't too much of a disaster area). I'm not so sure about stuff on the internet...
