timing - verbal reasoning

son, to take 11+ verbal and non-verbal exams for Grantham schools in September 2008. Timing is an issue - used a 'placement' test, only completed two-thirds (made only 2 mistakes in these questions) could 'do' rest of paper but clearly needs to work more quickly. How do I approach? Have begun identifying types he spends longer on - typically 'spelling' related questions eg finding a four-letter word hidden in sentence. Have a series of 4 books detailing types of questions and how to tackle them. NV is not a problem, good score, completed well within time. Would really appreciate advice, from anyone out there who has successfully tackled time issue. Thanks

Practise is the key. As the child gets familiar with the types of question, they automatically get faster as they recognise whats required to answer that type.
Find out which VR question types Grantham schools test. There are certain types they will not test, and it will be a waste of your time, learning the technique for these. The usual are the 21 types.
VR Types are listed for some areas here... http://www.elevenplusexams.co.uk/vr-que ... region.php
A lot of VR info is to be had on the Buckinghamshire thread, from our resident experts Patricia, and Mike.

Good Luck.
