The Tutors New Beginners CD

Post by Mike »

Hi

The Tutors are currently writing a new CD for Beginners to Eleven Plus Verbal Reasoning questions.

The CD is formatted as follows:

Set 1 questions covering 20 NFER question types (type 15, or IPS type Z are not included). The question sets have been written as simply as possible, to allow children with first exposure to the questions to become familiar with the basic methods & techniques to complete them.

Set 2 questions (as above). These questions sets are slightly more difficult than Set 1, but are easier than the main Verbal Reasoning questions set by NFER, there is an overlap at the higher end of Set 2 and the lower end of the NFER questions.

Question papers: 25 questions per paper covering five question types each at a difficulty going through Set 1 to Set 2.

Before the launch of the CD, we are looking for advice from Forum users. If there are any suggestions that you feel are worth incorporating in a CD for Beginners, let us know.

Also, if you have any suggestions for additions to our product range, let us know.

We cannot guarantee that all suggestions are included, but they will be taken seriously.

Regards

A good idea, a gap in the market only starter NFER VR product I found was IPS S Starter papers.

Would like to see NFER NVR on CD?

Also a starter word list?

And a twenty five hour day to fit everything into? :D :D

Perhaps add/show an 'A-Z' wheel for VR code questions. So children understand the concept that after 'Z' you start right back at 'A'.

It would be nice if the question types could be stated... I.e. This is a Z Type.

Also... Keyboard control... not needing to be mouse driven.

Agree with Bewildered about the wheel. Perhaps a Mirror image would help too for the Code types. Like the idea of 5 question types and five per type as this eases boredom which is something I notice happens with the current IPS additional papers where each sheet is 12 questions of the same type.

1. Starter CD - yes please! Am currently trying to get something like this.
2. Z coming after A? Like the wheel idea. This would make it easier to explain.
3. An idiot's guide for us parents as to what question is what type!!!
4. Lots of NVR - this area is so neglected.

Hi

We have sent a range of alphabets to the site for inclusion on the free download section. We thought they would be better placed there because there is no facility to print from the CDs. Give the guys at elevenplusexams.co.uk a few days to place them on the site, then pester them for them!!!

We chose to number and name our question types rather than give leteters to them.

Sally-Anne has placed a sticky linking our question types to IPS as the first link on the Verbal Reasoning section of the forum.

We felt we would be encroaching on IPS's copyright if we copied there cataloguing.

Also not all LEAs cover the 21 question types, so we chose to put the main 15 question types at the beginning of the CD and the additional 6, HIKNOS, questions at the end.

We will not be writing any NVR questions for the Beginner´s CD, it will only cover Verbal Reasoning. However, NVR seems to be the next step for us, so we will start researching for NVR after we have completed the new CD.

Regards

Mike
