Number of preferences

Post by QUEENMA »

Hi all
Does anyone know why Surrey County Council offers only 3 choices for schools on their secondary schools application form while Kingston, Sutton etc...offer 6 ? The person from the schools admission who I soke to ( Surrey County Council ) said it was because Surrey did not have grammar schools - Now that seems unfair, first no grammar schools in the county and then 3 choices less ! Has anyone appealed in the past etc...? Surrey says it participates in the co-ordinated admissions process ( pan london scheme ) then why the discrepancy ?
Regards

The rules say they must request at least 3 preferences, but beyond that it's up to the local authority. Most London boroughs have 6 because there are so many schools within range. Bucks have 6, Herts 3 and Essex 4, even though they're also in the pan-London scheme.
