Hi Admissions Lady,

I read this today from your school website.

"Marking will be in two stages. A candidate will need to achieve above a modest
combined
score in VR and English multiple choice to be taken forward to the next
stage."

I did think of calling you, but then thought that your response would be of interest to others as well.

Could you please clarify what this actually means.

I am concerned as maths is my dc's stronger subject.

Thank you.

Admissions lady is probably rather busy today and tomorrow as SGS had their open evening tonight.

I think the school has always set a lot of store by good English, feeling that it is more challenging to succeed in other areas if English language is not strong. It is possible they have now decided to formalise this.

Sorry folks - haven't logged on for a few days!

The modest combined score in the two multiple choice papers is very modest indeed - that is, even if the candidate scored full marks in the maths and English essay (which have to be hand marked), they still couldn't achieve a pass mark overall.

This is simply a more efficient use of the school's resourses.

All candidates sit all the papers at the same time (ie morning or afternoon of the 20th November)

Please feel free to call me if you are still puzzled.

Thank you for your reply Admissions Lady. I sort of worked out the logic concerning the marking eventually, but it was just the initial shock of reading the quote.

The open day last week was great it has my DS hooked, he so wants to go there.
