Is Earlsfield too far away for Tiffin girls?

Post by SWLondmum »

According to TFL the journey would be a shade under an hour door to door.

Do any current parents have experience of this journey? Does it become a terrible grind, or is it do-able? Does your child feel left out by not being very local? Or does the positive experience of being at the school outweigh anything as prosaic as the length of commute?

I'd be grateful of any thoughts. My daughter would be sitting the test for a 2012 place.

Thanks very much.

I would say it can be done .We live only 3 miles from Tiffin( boys) and my son can take up to 45 mins on a bad day to get there on the 213 bus.
I once saw a Tiffin boy getting off a jubilee line train at Waterloo at about 7.30am, so there are people from far afield who travel to both Tiffin schools.

Well, not very many local kids at the Tiffins
It is a constant sourse of grief for us locals but anyway...It is a well known fact that one girl is travelling every day from Portsmouth, spending her life on the trains.
If she is fine, your DD will be fine as well.

Portsmouth! Seriously? That makes our concerns about distance seem rather minor...

Hi, SWLondmum: I used to live in Wandsworth(near Shopping Center) and my DS had to take bus 44 or 270 to Earlsfield Station and took train to Kingston. Usually 45 mins later he would arrive at Tiffin School. So, if you live near Ealsfield STN, I would say the journey is quite "easy". I even know one boy who lives at Canary Wharf has studied at Tiffin School. Anyway, don't worry about the journey any more and help your DD with VR and Non-VR. Good luck to you and your DD! ( As far as I could remember, only one or two children in my son's class live in Kingston. Richmond or New Malden seem quite "local" though. So, nobody feels "left out" being not living very near from the school. Tiffin Girl's would be the same, I guess.)

I agree - no where seems too far for these schools.

Posted before but will mention again as long as you are committed to the travel, the extra curricular and the sports involved go for it. Plus the staying sober to be taxi driving for those late night party pick ups!

Commutes from Woking, Croydon, Heathrow, North London, all over Hounslow and Ealing and from house next to IKEA on North Circular are all known at Tiffin boys!
