From my experience (of Tiffin boys so may be different to the Sutton schools), a high level 5 at the end of yr 5 is a good indicator: my son was Reading 5a, Maths 5b, Writing 4a at the end of yr 5 and his Tiffin result was about 600th out of 1200 (from memory) - ie nowhere near to the top! Having said that he didn't do the Tiffin-specific tutoring as I'd realized he probably wasn't going to get in so did more general tutoring for independent schools (which he got into). But of the kids that did do the Tiffin tutoring, the two that got in were definitely high level 5s by end of year 5.
