I've seen on the websites of the schools that Wilsons is Maths school & Tiffin is a Language school. What does this mean? I recently moved to UK & don't really understand the education system here. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi - labels are not as significant as it may at first appear!

a few years back extra money was given to schools to become specialist schools and many schools eventually got specialist status in one area or another. The schools locally to me are Science, Engineering and Sports specialists. It makes no difference to which kids go there as two of them are the local grammars and there isn't another grammar for 20 miles.

DS got something out of the science as trips to special courses were funded out of the science budget but ultimately he is doing humantities - however they all did Triple Science at GCSE.
DD has to do some engineering @ GCSE but seeing as that can include food too and quite a lot of them enjoy the engineering.

Wilsons and Tiffin are both selective Grammar Schools - so have to pass the 11 plus with quite high scores
