it was mentioned by Deputy Head that the school would like to be viewed as "green" and the girls should be encouraged to travel by public transport.

Then School should also adopt sensible admission policies and not admit children from such distances. Once given place, the children do have to come to school and parents would do whatever needed to ease their travel. Clearly the TGS fault in the first place. Hope they amend their admission criteria to facilitate achieving their enviromental objectives.

Train from Southall to Slough takes just 15 minutes. I wonder if it would have been possible to take admission in grammar schools in Slough (Langley or Slough for example). Lot better than travelling long distance to Tiffins.

This size of school needs to consider ways to alleviate nearby residents' grievances. One way is to let cars enter internal road (where staff car park is situated), drop the girls and leave from the other side, for morning drop offs only - no waiting to be allowed at any time. Same system is in our primary school horse shoe area - only drop off is allowed in morning. Extremely convenient and safe for children as well.

I agree the local peeps on this point (bet you thought I'd never say that!).

The Head did give a very clear message that girls should be independent from day 1 and travel to school independently and on public transport.

Which is exactly what we will be doing.

(This is very tongue in cheek)

Maybe they should put up a barrier and then charge the cars and minibuses at drop off and pick up time!
