Have you been to Malden, Old Malden or Chessington or Cambridge Road area? Have you never heard of social housing right in the heart of Kingston centre?

Or do you keep your eyes only on expensive houses?
have you looked at the prices of houses in those areas - even they can be beyond the means of some people - and no I don't even look at the prices of the expensive houses!

The whole grammar school system is unfair - postcode lottery. Some areas of UK have no grammar schools - other counties (eg kent, bucks) have an abundance of grammar schools! At least we have some sort of shot at a grammar school place for our kids in this area - be it Tiffins, Sutton schools or Slough. Many people buy/rent their homes in a certain area way before having kids due to their circumstances. No one thinks about their future childrens possible secondary schooling in order to live in a certain area at this stage! Unfortunately, by the time you have kids - you're skint and can't move out from where you are because of house prices in London/Surrey have gone up ten fold - so we all do what's best for our kids - even if it means sitting for grammar schools out of area!! However, I do understand(tiffin boys!) that it is frustrating that most schools have catchment criteria except Tiffins. The girls catchment this year is so large it doesn't really change much!!!
Life begins at the end of your comfort zone!

Any property, no matter how economical, can be beyond the means of some or most people and that is true for any area.

and no I don't even look at the prices of the expensive houses!
I find that good for health.

Who funds these schools? is it funds collected from the local area or from taxes paid by every one? I haven't looked at this but would think that whoever funds this, should have the last say. If the LA funds it, school needs to be more local with wishes of local parents respected but if it is funded from central funds, then there is no case.

That is no argument. All schools are funded by central government. Even the ones with distance or catchment policies. So that does not bar Tiffins from having such policies, just like schools in Kent, or Bucks or Sutton (girls), or Slough or Reading or Redbridge or Chelmsford and numerous others.

Are people who stay outside of ones's definition of "local" area descendants from a different planet who have monopolized tutoring/NVR/hard effort? Are the "locals" unable to do so and in danger of becoming extinct as a result of this onslaught?

It might not be an argument you like, but this is a free and open forum to put ones point across.

Probably. At current intake, local children are 'endangered species' in Tiffins.

You have a point. I should have said 'that is not a good argument'.

The campaign, in that case, needs to be for more open door policy rather than closed door policy
