Hi All,

My son got 253 in Tiffin test for 2014 entrance and we put Tiffin as 1st choice in CAF;
We are planning to relocate close to Tiffin, question this time is a deferent one;

My younger son is in year year 3 and will be in year 4 from 2014/September;
Before searching in google, would you tell me good primary schools around Tiffin boys school please;

Thank you for all your help & it was really useful;
Anne

There are quite a few good primary/junior schools in Kingston and Richmond. You could get the details on each of these boroughs' website. However, as you would expect, it would not be easy to get the place in these schools until there is vacancy there and your dc is top of the waiting list.

Your biggest problem will be getting in at year 4, many are full. You will have less of a problem in year 5 and there are often vacancies in year 6 in Kingston primaries (some leave to go to independents, to virtually guarantee their place in year 7 at the Indies.

Best bet is to read the school league tables (not a great indicator as you are looking at a few rogue grades can distort the cohort averages) and Ofsted website (just use the Tiffin postcode and check the nearest ones). Some parts of KT1 have some schools that are not as good as KT2, KT3, KT6 or Hampton Wick etc but difficult to generalise.

If your second child is also aiming for Tiffin look very closely at the schools level 6 results for KS2 (and you can deduce percentages by looking at cohort size, 30, 60, 90 sitting KS2. Don't use the current admission number as many schools were expanded so now admit extra class per year but the current year 6 is smaller (actually the most recent results will be for those who finished July 2013, and are now year 7)

The expansion of housing in the Kingston area is incredible. Kingston centre and along the river is now just a massive concentration of blocks of flats and the occupants of those flats are now creating huge pressure on local schools. Recently many schools expanded their intake to try and offset this but expect catchments to be very tight at present.
If you are renting, then renting at £££ for six months and then moving out once you have secured a place seems to be happening around us. (The house a few doors down, and in catchment of a good school, seems to be changing hands every six months and the occupants seem to co-incidentally always have school age kids!). Kingston has good train/bus/road links so this is feasible.
If you are a home-owner then you won't be so fortunate as stamp duty makes moving hugely expensive.

253 is certainly a great result and I am sure that OP's DS would have got equally good score in Slough test. The question is are the Slough grammars so much worse that one would want to uproot the entire family and take the trouble and cost of relocating?
