Re: Nonsuch lost science specialist status?
I had envisaged triple science would be taken in addition to extra humanity or language options not instead of these. Children at grammar school are capable of taking more than the 9 or 10 subjects offered at non selective schools.
Whatever the schools may say, triple science is regarded as the more academic option. Children whose schools do not offer it are of course not expected to take it but I cannot help but think it will count against a grammar school pupil to have opted for a less rigorous course.

I have one at Tiffin and one at a comprehensive. The boys who excelled at either French or German were allowed to take a further language at Tiffin Boys as well as triple science. I don't know if this has changed but it certainly was the case until recently. As for only 9 or 0 GCSEs at a comprehensive. I think they are very conscious of league table position and the able pupils are encouraged to take more than that. My own child did 10 GCSEs plus FSMQ Further Maths, AS Critical Thinking (yr10) A2 Critical Thinking ( yr11) as did many of her friends.

I completely agree with you.loopylou wrote:I had envisaged triple science would be taken in addition to extra humanity or language options not instead of these. Children at grammar school are capable of taking more than the 9 or 10 subjects offered at non selective schools.

Thanks for all your replies, I am still confused..
Nonsuch girl, ae you saying only 17 of 180 girls took triple science? Or the other way around?
Do you have to be in Set1 to be able to take core and additional?

I couldn't find either. Surprizing, omission or hidden in some obscure corner. Looks like fault of new web design.
