You are comparing day schools at opposite sides of London. If your Ds wants to fence, there are many options open to him. I find it odd, and a little sad, that a child is being uprooted from where he lives. But if that is to happen, then looking at the type of house you can afford, the community that you will live in, how your job and commute will be affected - these all will have a much bigger impact then whether it is QE or Tiffin. Step away from the league tables and the minutiae of clubs (which tend to change when teachers move to other schools etc) and look at the big picture for your family. Are there no cousins, no wider family to consider? Grandparents, godparents, existing clubs etc? You have a bright boy, who will thrive academically wherever he goes. If he doesn't see you because the commute is too long (for either of you), or doesn't like the area he lives in and can't pursue other interests, or doesn't grow up with a family of all ages, not just a narrow year group, these things will have a longer term impact.

Great post Ladymuck. Given the choice of two halfway decent schools consider all of the above as far, far more important.

Agreed, mad?. I meant to include a comment about this in my post too. YoungSuccess I notice that you were waiting for results for at least one of the Surrey consortium schools too. These are all good schools, each with their own quirks and specialisms. Any of them has the potential to give your son a great education. Just go for whichever one is the closest, so his life, and your family life, is not disrupted by needless hours of travel or relocation away from your known infrastructure.

YS, howmuch is the commute time for your DS to QE? What is your personal preferred choice? Is it QE too or you changed your mind?
