Hello all

Looking for some help and advice, with all the new changes I'm a bit unsure as to what to do (parents whose kids have recently sat the test for the above schools, please help) are the Cloze type questions included in the tests for the above schools e.g if they are, what type of questions are they i.e. multiple choice, selection from a Word bank etc. So the question is what would you recommend in terms of books to buy. One final question, in the Creative writing test what topics were given if you could kindly share, that would be great.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Frantic Dad :D

Late sitters can sit all the way through to the end of year 7 apparently. Revealing writing topics and other specific exam detail would benefit late sitters and could prevent your own child from getting a space, even a waiting list space.

Although Stroller is right, but taking it to that extreme would mean never posting any helpful bit about the previous tests. In my view, posting about previous test in January or later would not be any significantly adverse. In theory, some one may move in local area in March, take test in April and join the waiting list. It happens but very rarely and usually, schools are full as well by that time, so no vacancy.

And to OP, prepare widely for the tests, including for creative writing. There is some information for type of writing topics in boy's grammar threads. Stage 1 test is multiple choice; if cloze type questions come up there, word bank would be there to chose from.

Thanks for the speedy replies, just wanted to know whether the Cloze type questions were in the exam I can appreciate that there are late sitters so wasn't after specific questions just a guide. My dd is in year 5 just wanted to know in order to prepare her.

Revealing writing topics this early would have been unfair though, IMO.

Quite right; not the writing tasks until offer date perhaps. Just a thought, the tutors get to find this out very early on. Not ever posting about the previous exams gives them undue advantage.

True. I've also noticed that far less is posted about round two super selective exams. There are fewer candidates as a population of course, which may influence it too. To some extent though, it's difficult / impossible / wrong to recommend materials and approaches until you know what worked for your own child. With several of the super selectives [including, at least, Tiffin Girls, Henrietta Barnett and Sutton] you won't know until March whether you took a viable approach. The HBS round two exam hasn't even happened yet!
