I always think it is sad when an all girls school appoints a male Headteacher - I just cannot see a boys school appointing a female Head.

New HT is male ... Felicity Lusk was at Oxford High before and I don't think she was at Abingdon for that long (5 years).

Can anyone think of another example? I can think of lots of male Heads of all girls schools.

The outgoing head of Tiffin School is a woman. She's retiring but has been a marvellous head. Hilda Clarke. She is being replaced by a man though - the current deputy.

Guest55 I was referring to your comment "I just cannot see a boys school appointing a female head" and pointing out that Abingdon had done that when they appointed Felicity.

Felicity is retiring, hence the new head. She actually was a breath of fresh air, breaking up the traditional ideas and putting her stamp on it - she is also refreshingly forward thinking in her ideas about the role of boarding schools and young boarders.

I remember the headlines when she was appointed - a very brave move by the Governors.

OK - so we have two examples - so it has happened but still FAR too rare.

I do know Felicity btw ...

She is very well known around the world. We had dinner at her house not long ago...
