Nonsuch... just a bit cold

Post by GIJOTMUM »

Can someone advise me on Nonsuch. Went to visit yesterday and was shown around by the deputy head. They have great facilities and a wealth of subjects on offer. However, there was something cold and distant about the girls. They just didn't seem happy... Can anyone give me some insider knowledge please.

I know a handful of girls who've gone to Nonsuch and none of them could ever be described as cold or distant. They are all delightful. One Y6 girl I know who has a good second stage score is considering following her sister to Nonsuch as her sister enjoyed her time there so much.

We went to see Nonsuch at two open evenings and my DD liked Nonsuch most, if you see my postings in 2016 entry threads. Even more than TGS.

May be, it was the weather which made them appear cold yesterday.

Maybe it was the fact that it was the deputy head that was showing us around that made the girls seem almost nervous... The school is pristine. I just wish I had.gone to the open evenings etc and not left everything to the last minute. We are in TW2 so its a jolly long commute and a serious issue to eliviate. Lots of girls are travelling over and hour each way to get to school but thats something I really would rather not have. Tough one.

Do you also have Tiffin Girls' as a possibility? It's very easy to get to from the Twickenham area as so well served by public transport. My daughter has a very straightforward journey to school, and I never worry if she has anything after school as she can always get home, and it's a short drive for parents' evenings, events or meetings. We loved Nonsuch and she did pass the exam but in the end we felt it was just too far away.

We loved the school at the open evening, actually
more than TGS. I am also based in TW2 and
did the commute myself last week to be sure
Took about an hour to reach and there were
many girls on the 213 bus.

But TGS is closer hence goes as
first choice but definitely putting NS as
one of the preferences.

Only worry is how bad the traffic can be on the X26/213
bus route.

I've driven along the bus route to Cheam in rush hour and the traffic is really, really bad - a very slow journey. We considered our daughter taking the train as part of the journey then changing onto the bus, then sat back and thought... are we mad? I wouldn't want to do that journey myself let alone an 11 year old. It would have been a complete nightmare getting there by car for concerts/events too. However lovely the school is the daily grind of the journey would make it lose its appeal quickly!

Yes agree and that traffic part was a big
worry for me too . Hence it is not top of our preference list
and if we do end up being offered NS we will move closer to school.

As regards to Gijotmum's query we found the school very welcoming.

Can totally relate to the traffic jam problem... like the school very much but just donno whether we shall put Nonsuch on top of the local choice (less preferred than Nonsuch)... very headache.
