That shouldn't disappoint you at all. It was the same story with us as well. I think it is a known fact that boys usually prefer Maths over English.
There are many interesting questions types in VR which are not purely based on words. Even with those based on words, from my experience, with a good approach and 11+ word collection lists (published in this site and found in those VR test papers) you can aim to cover most.
