Wallington Girls Admission
Have just received notification that admission criteria for 2010 will now be:
100 places based on the score in the assessment test in order of highest score
80 places based on 6.7km radius of the school in order of highest score
Governers have relented a little following local comminity feedback to initial proposals.

How wrong you are Huntlie. Nonsuch have gone the same way.
• 100 places in order of highest score to those whose permanent place of residence is 5.25 km or less from the front door of Nonsuch High School for Girls
• The remaining places (up to the Planned Admission Number of 180) on the basis of score in the admission test
This is hot of the press.

Well, it's good that all our protests have borne some fruit, although the local paper expresses what most still feel, that an axe has been taken to local places!
It still does not solve their problem, which is to do with the fact that the test simply does not select the best - naturally some of the best make it, but many of those who get in are there because they have been intensively coached (3 + hours a week for years, for many, and 3 years of it in the local prep where 9 out of 13 got a place this year!) - if they used an English exam, it would at least weed out those who might score 100% on the Maths but still cannot write a sentence & need the support of private tutors right up until GCSE and beypnd.
