Thanks to all for your replies. Only this morning did I realise I have slept sooooo well this week, I guess because a decision has been made and I know we couldn't have done any more to secure a state place.

My daughter started at an independant in Year 7.
We had moved from another part of the country and so she knew no one at all. It was very nerve racking and I felt awful when I took her for her first day and "handed her over" to the teacher!!
There had been one "new girls day" but that was all.

Just to say she had made great friends after just a few days. She is now at university and has the same great friends (mostly on facebook of course but they are still mates)

So, don't worry too much - can understand you will, but she'll be fine.
