indie phoning with results rather than a letter

One of the indies we have applied to will be phoning out the results this week. Has anyone come across this before? I wonder whether it's to gauge reactions and see if anyone has already had a first choice preference confirmed and therefore doesn't want to proceed with this application? At least when the letter comes by post you only have the morning to sweat till the postie arrives, I'm potentially going to be a bag of nerves all day waiting for the call.... [/i]

Do they phone regrets as well as offers?
Sounds unusual as it is a brave school sec or other to tell a parent their child hasn't got in :o

I think it's regrets too as they say 'everyone' will be notified by phone this week.... eek that's going to be hard

Do you have BT as your phone supplier? You can divert calls to your mobile, or another number, when we were waiting fro a call from a school re interview I did that, so that I could leave the house and do other things that day (not go the cinema tho obviously:-)
