School Bus fares

cor, some wildly varying charges here and the OP's sounds outrageous. Our school bus (involves us driving him 4 or 5 miles to get it) is £740 a year for about 10 miles each way. Cheaper than petrol but a bitter cheque to write. You can pay termly but it's more expensive that way. After school activities not catered for so have to drive to collect him anyway.
Luckily next boy's bus will be £450 a year, he can walk to get it. Hoorah! Moreover, you pay per ticket, so if you're ill / have an after school you're not wasting any money.
EDIT! Darn, it's gone up this year to £525. That's some price hike!! Annoyingly, the next stop along (but a mile down a winding country lane so not feasible) is a hundred quid cheaper. This price line applies to us and people MILES away. Grrr. Typical to be the wrong side of the cut off point. Moan moan.
