Guess I should try to contact Dean Close....thanksT.i.p.s.y wrote:Meant to add that I would seriously consider Dean Close. I have been stunned at the standard of music there and so far it is the best of any senior school I have seen thus far, except for specialist schools of course. Many pupils win organ and choral scholarships to Oxbridge and a number are members of the RCM conservatoire whilst still at school.
Thanks so much. I just sent Dean Close an enquiry with my son's background + music capability. BTW, he plays the recorder (alto and soprano). He also has absolute pitch ability.T.i.p.s.y wrote:Dean Close will definitely consider him and it is not academically difficult to get in to but does very well academically given it's intake. If he plays the treble recorder then that will look more impressive and DC only require one instrument for scholarship.
EDIT: and Stowe is not selective
Thanks for telling me. Will definitely keep you posted. Any other suggestion is most welcome.T.i.p.s.y wrote:Well to have absolute pitch is a rarety and even the best singers do not have this - he may be eligible for a choral scholarship too. Keep me posted.I know the prep admin is super efficient and very accommodating - I hope the senior school admin staff are just as impressive.
just a quick update:
I sent the email with details of my son to Dean Close last night and just got their email with the registration form. They said the admission tutor and the Director of Music are so impressed by his playing and they will offer us 10% off the fee + free tution from the Director of Music.
I am so pleased. However guess I need to also apply bursary and pay a visit to the school.
Thanks T.i.p.s.y!!!!

Wow,
He must be amazing! I can't wait to see him in the concerts from September and I really, really hope you get a bursary. Did they mention anything about applying for one? Just think both our boys (well definitely yours) might be musical stars at DC. My son is a chorister there so I expect they will be singing together from time to time!

How old is your kid and under which year group? I must have lots of questions to consult you later on.
