Hi all, this is my first post so this might not be the right place, apologies if it's not.

Does anyone know anything about the King's School, Peterborough, its entrance exams and how it compares to Grammar Schools in Lincs or Private schools in the Northants, Cambs and Lincs area?

I see from their website that they admit 10 children from a written exam and 3 from musical ability, with others entering from religious or brother/sister grounds.

We live in Peterborough and are thinking of places for our two girls, 7 and 8, so I realise we've still got a while to go but I thought we'd start trying to find out some more about the school if we could.

From talking to some of the parents at the primary school King's is held in high regard, however, I'm trying to find out if there is anyone else out there that has any info.

I tried a search on here but only found one post from a while ago and it didn't mention the 10 academic places or 3 musical places at all.

Thanks for reading,

Rgds

Hi PBP

Interesting questions! Kings is not an independent school so we really need to move it to another section .... not sure where though??

Looking at the league tables it seems to get 85% of 5 A-Cs - v good for only partially selective intake - however the A level performance is very good and looks like they must take in quite a number from elsewhere into the sixth form?

Mitasol, thanks for the deletions, who'd believe I've been using a PC for years!

Hermanmunster, yes, they are unusual in that whilst they are part of the Gov't system (although they have this year applied for Academy status) they are partially selective.

This appears to be an ongoing continuation of what was set up in c. 1541 and there are only 7 'King's' schools in the UK that have similar entry criteria.

I believe they also have an additional selection criteria applied at the 6th form so students from other schools can apply to enter.

Keep the info coming, I'm trying to build up a better understanding about the school.

Rgds all.
